Six years after the MB&F Legacy Machine No.2 exploded onto the watchmaking scene, tumbling, so perfectly formed, from the minds of award-winning watchmakers Jean-François Mojon and Kari Voutilainen, its journey has come full circle. The release of the MB&F LM2 Red Gold Blue fake watch will be the last ever to be made from the 18k red gold that encased the first.
And this will be a very limited release, with only 12 pieces planned. But each of those 12 will have a remarkably rich character thanks to the regal combination of the red gold case and the deep blue dial plate, whose color has been obtained through a CVD (chemical vapor deposition) process.

As with previous entrants in this family, the dial of the MB&F Legacy Machine No.2 is enlivened and defined by the dial "flying?balance wheels, which remain secured by the "second generation?bridges we saw debut in the most recent LM2 watches. These curved and polished bridges that arch up from the dial to give proceedings a rarely seen depth are charged with stabilizing two completely independent regulating organs, beating at different rates in order to provide an "average?reading, which, theoretically, reduces the likelihood of isochronous error.
An Homage To GeniusDuring the design process, Voutilainen and Mojon paid tribute to some of the finest horologists to ever grace the earth. It is clear to see that the ghosts of Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807), and Antide Janvier (1751-1835) haunt this piece that takes their shared interest in dual regulators and dashes with it into the 21st century.
Advertising MessageAnd that triumvirate of legends has a living peer in Philippe Dufour, the creator of the "Duality?watch, which was the first to contain dual regulators and a differential. Dufour is considered by many to be the greatest living watchmaker, and this piece could also be seen as a tribute to his brilliance. As one would expect, such top-level work carries a significant price tag. The MB&F LM2 Red Gold Blue will retail for $156,000 + taxes. To learn more, visit mbandf.com.
