Introduced in late 2015, the Legacy Machine Perpetual is one of MB&F's most complicated watches. It is also arguably the most visually arresting. Since its launch, the Legacy Machine Perpetual has been made available in platinum as well as white and red gold. Now, there's a new version in titanium. This is the new MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual Titanium.
Like all other Legacy Machine watches, the Legacy Machine Perpetual's balance wheel takes center stage on the dial. This presents a challenge because traditional perpetual calendars rely on a lever to change the various perpetual calendar indications on the dial. This means no complication can be put over the lever, which obviously won't do for a Legacy Machine. As a result, significant rethinking was required to allow the balance wheel to take center stage on the Legacy Machine Perpetual watch.
Advertising MessageThe MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual Titanium has a case that is identical to previous Legacy Machine Perpetual watches. Case diameter is still 44mm, but it is now made out of grade 5 titanium. The use of titanium has significant aesthetic and practical effects. Titanium has a unique hue that is unlike that of steel or gold. Additionally, it is hypoallergenic (great for people with sensitive skin) and it is very light but strong.
The use of titanium aside, the other major change is the dial. The dial configuration is unchanged, with sub-dials for the time, day, month, and date at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock respectively. The big change is the color of the dial. It now has a striking emerald green dial that looks pretty awesome, at least based on what we can see from the press images.
The movement is the same integrated hand-wound perpetual calendar caliber that was developed by Stephen McDonnell, a self-taught movement designer based in North Ireland. Not only was it designed to be visually interesting, it was also designed to be foolproof and easy to use. It is made out of 581 components and has two mainspring barrels providing a power reserve of 72 hours.
Advertising MessageAll things considered, this is one of the more fun versions of the Legacy Machine Perpetual. The white gold version with a purple dial is probably just as funky and the red gold version is the king of bling, but this new titanium model has the advantage of a new case material and an equally interesting dial color. The new MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual Titanium is priced at 148,000 CHF and will be limited to 50 pieces. mbandf.com
